John Singer Sargent

Sargent's watercolours are relaxed with loose brushstrokes and an impressionist feel. For example, when painting water, the artist used long sweeping strokes which makes the colours weave into each other, creating the illusion of movement. If you look closely at his paintings, you will see they are nothing more than an arrangement of dark and light shapes. While less detailed, his paintings appear realistic at first glance due to his accurate use of values, colours and shapes.
